04 September 2007 Taking out pet insurance 'may reduce pain'
A national charity has claimed that it is a good idea to take out pet insurance as there is "no NHS" for animals. If a domestic pet were to become injured or ill, veterinary bills may prove to be too expensive if an owner does not have cover.
Such a measure could "provide reassurance and lessen heartache" in the future, the organisation added.
Alexandra Baker, spokesperson for the group, commented that it is important that animals are covered as soon as they are born and enter the home.
"It makes sense to look in to getting pet insurance. You just don’t know what's going to happen - if it is going to be run over or come down with a condition later on," she said.
Meanwhile, research by Defaqto has found that 17 per cent of cats and 32 per cent of dogs were insured in 2006.
