24 August 2007 Home insurance 'may be affected by garden features'
New research from Halifax Estate Agents has revealed the nation's favourite garden characteristics. The firm has found that 63 per cent of people looking to buy a home would prefer to find properties with matures shrubs and plants.
Some 58 per cent would like their garden to have a flagged patio area where they can host outdoor parties for guests.
However, home insurance prices may be affected as a result, with the company's managing director Colin Kemp stating that people should look after the outside of their house.
"Homeowners should treat their garden as they would any other room in their home. Ensuring it is tidy and well kept can dramatically enhance the appeal of a property," he said.
In the wake of the recent flooding in the south of England, home insurance companies may be looking at a £4 billion payout in order to help people get their lives back on track.
