17 August 2007 Bad habits behind the wheel 'may be passed on by parents'
Parents who teach their children to drive may be passing on their own bad habits, it has been claimed. While nine out of ten driving instructors thought the practice was ultimately beneficial, eight out of ten believed that teaching offspring can have some negative effects, according to British School of Motoring (BSM) research.
Similarly, six out of ten experts said they have known learners who have fallen out with their mum or dad because of the experience.
"Teaching teenagers can be a frustrating and thankless task for parents as they struggle to prepare their children for a test that bears little resemblance to the one that they took two or three decades ago," stated the BSM report.
Meanwhile, a government drive to improve road safety by increasing the legal motoring age in the UK increased to 18 may also have an effect on car insurance policies for young people.
