16 August 2007 Wellingborough motorists face speed crackdown

Motorists breaking the speed limit on Wellingborough roads will be in the sights of police officers in the area as a new crackdown on the crime gets underway, it has been reported.

The Northants Evening Telegraph has stated that local residents have complained to the authorities about rogue motorists behaving dangerously.

As a result, the area's Safer Community Team will take to the road with handheld monitors in an attempt to curb the activity.

They will take down drivers' details and then send a letter warning them to desist from behaving in such a manner.

If the motorists do not stop speeding, a conviction may compromise their chances of picking up cheap car insurance policies in the future.

"The Safer Community Team has called on people living in the area and one of their main priorities was to stop people driving so fast," said community support officer Chris Howes.

According to Department for Transport figures cited in the Irish Times, the number of drivers admitting to speeding has dropped.
