14 August 2007 Bike show carries risk for drivers
North Yorkshire police are preparing themselves for a busy time on the roads as motorbike fans descend on the region for Superbike races. The event is expected to be attended by thousands of bike enthusiasts but local officers have warned of the dangers of breaking the speed limit on nearby rural roads.
Indeed, its Operation Helical scheme has seen two bikers risk their motor insurance policies having been clocked speeding on the A63 near Selby.
Fast motorcyclists could cause a problem for local drivers of the four-wheeled variety and may see them compromise their car insurance no-claims bonus in the wake of a collision.
"Visitors to North Yorkshire - we welcome you to enjoy our marvellous rural roads and scenery, but if you come here and take risks, then our officers will catch you and they will deal with you," said deputy chief constable Adam Briggs.
Meanwhile, former World and British Superbike champion Neil Hodgson made an appearance at the Great Yorkshire Bike Show last month.
