13 August 2007 Holidaymakers 'may save on mobile phone bills while abroad'
Those looking to go abroad this summer should consider contacting their mobile phone operator first, it has been claimed. This is because the new Eurotariffs roaming system is to be introduced on August 27th 2007, meaning people throughout Europe will be able to enjoy cheaper rates when using networks away from home.
But according to uSwitch.com, it may be that consumers are already receiving a similar service and switching could see them save.
Indeed, a costly bill may be an unwanted addition to accommodation costs, spending money and travel insurance prices.
"We advise anyone going on holiday over the next three weeks to call their mobile network before they go to make sure that they get the best deal while they are away," said Steve Weller, head of communications services for the firm.
Similarly, people may also benefit from buying a prepaid phone card and using public terminals to call home.
