10 August 2007 Supermarkets 'may offer travel insurance benefits over banks'
Supermarkets may soon offer consumers more options than their high street bank when it comes to financial travel needs, it has been suggested. This claim from M&S Money comes as part of the company's latest research, which has found that the stores may soon be more convenient for banking than traditional money institutions.
For instance, the longer opening times can give customers the chance to exchange their foreign currency and take out a travel insurance policy at the last minute.
"It is probably something they wouldn't go shopping to look for but while they are shopping they might think 'that's a good idea'. Then they don't have to make a separate trip to the bank," said M&S spokesperson Liz Neild.
A recent survey from The Motley Fool found M&S Money to be the second favourite company among consumers looking to exchange foreign currency.
The firm lost out on the top spot to Travelex.
