10 August 2007 Police issue warning over burglaries
Police in Lancashire have urged homeowners to stay secure after a number of burglaries occurred over the weekend, it has been reported.According to the Chorley Citizen, thousands of pounds worth of goods were stolen in Chorley on Friday August 3rd and Saturday August 4th 2007.
It added that one of the thieves left with only a mobile phone after he was disturbed by a 77-year-old man in St James' Place.
An unsuccessful break-in can still have implications on a home insurance policy - and a local officer has explained exactly what to do to keep burglars at bay.
"In the warm weather we stress the importance of keeping doors and windows securely locked. Thieves will not miss the chance to get into a property and take belongings," said Sergeant Alison Harris from the neighbourhood policing team.
Families going away during August may want to make sure their house is not an easy target for burglars by making provision against theft before they head on holiday.
