09 August 2007 Marrying abroad 'cheaper but needs insurance'

Marrying abroad is a cheaper option for couples - but they should still take out travel insurance, it has been claimed.

Research from WeddingsAbroad.com has found that ten per cent of UK couples now get married overseas.

While this can be more stressful to organise, it allows for a limited guest list and a dream location, commented managing director Kate Thornton-Brown.

But Ms Thornton-Brown pointed out that a thorough travel insurance package would be useful in the event that the wedding is ruined.

"More and more couples are choosing to head overseas to have their dream weddings. It is an exciting departure from tying the knot in the traditional local wedding," she said.

A number of couples may have been attracted to go abroad after seeing celebrities wed in exotic locations.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck married in the Caribbean, while Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson arranged their wedding on a Hawaiian beach.
