02 August 2007 People in Scotland 'pay less for holidays'

Those living north of the English border are paying less for their holidays, it has been reported.

Some 63 per cent of people living in Scotland pay less than £500 for their vacation, compared to 53 per cent of those living in London, according to M&S Money.

But the research also pointed out that the Scots often take more spending money away with them - £287 - the highest in the UK.

And James Yerkess, M&S Travel Money manager, commented that "Scots and northerners are getting the best value on their holiday money".

Once the cost of travel insurance is factored in, it may well be that Scottish people end up paying significantly less overall for their time away.

This news is particularly relevant as this month marks the beginning of August, which is traditionally seen as the busiest period for holidaymakers and travel agents.
