01 August 2007 Convertibles 'leaving consumers uncovered'

The cost of buying a convertible could leave some people's wallets prone to considerable damage, according to a consumer website.

Moneyextra.com has claimed that dealers are increasing the cost of the topless cars in anticipation of high demand over the summer months, Easier has reported.

However, it may be that the desirable nature of the vehicles and the material roof may see the accompanying car insurance and road tax bills hard to manage.

And Robin Amlot, senior editor at the company, added drivers should consider waiting until after the summer if they want to purchase a convertible.

"Given that forecourt deals won't be around for long, consumers should look at other areas to see if they can re-coup funds from elsewhere," he said.

But those looking forward to driving their car with the top down this summer may be disappointed by the rainy weather the UK has seen recently.
