31 July 2007 North Yorkshire Police hunt rogue drivers
olice in North Yorkshire have launched a campaign to rid the region of dangerous drivers, it has been reported.Operation Helical will target the 32 routes worst-affected by bad motorists over a period of eight weeks, according to the Yorkshire Post.
It may be that the hard-hitting initiative improves road safety in the region as well as brings car insurance prices down as a result.
And Adam Briggs, deputy chief constable for the group, added that drivers have a responsibility to act as safely as possible.
"We will be concentrating resource on those 32 identified routes and we will act positively against anyone we see endangering other road users," the officer said.
Official government statistics have shown that there is a yearly average of 3,000 deaths or seriously injuries on the road due to collisions caused by drink-driving.
In 2006, the number of total deaths on the road was 3,150.
