31 July 2007 Travellers 'should shop around to avoid high exchange rates'
Those looking to head abroad this summer should shop around for a good exchange rate before switching their money, it has been advised.Consumer website Moneyfacts.co.uk has claimed that holidaymakers should look to avoid added charges wherever they can.
For example, some companies may charge extra for using a credit card and some may attempt to take more money if delivery is involved.
Such prices can result in an unwanted holiday bill, especially in addition to travel insurance and flight costs.
"This year travellers will find an abundance of commission free currency deals, with only a handful of branch and telephone services now charging an upfront commission fee," said Lisa Taylor from the company.
During the summer holidays, children from poorer backgrounds should be given free meals in order to aid their concentration when they go back to school, the Institute for Public Policy Research has claimed.
