27 July 2007 Drink-driving campaign sees 8 caught in Highlands
A clampdown on drinking and driving in a region of Scotland has led to a series of arrests, it has been reported.Shetland Today has stated that eight drivers in the Highlands and Islands, including one in Shetland, were caught over the limit during the first week of a summer campaign against the crime.
These convictions may seriously damage the drivers' hopes of finding a cheaper car insurance deal the next time they come to renew, while they may also have to contend with a £60 fine and three licence points.
Superintendent Charlie Hepburn commented that the results were "disappointing".
"Despite the warnings issued by police in relation to drink-driving and the fact that this particular campaign has been widely publicised … people continue to drink and drive," he said.
Earlier this week, Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested after being found on the road while over the limit.
