23 July 2007 Car insurance customer seek out safe parking
Safe parking is one of the top priorities for car insurance customers when looking to buy a new home, according to new research from Halifax Estate Agents. The company found that 68 per cent of car owners would be prepared to pay more for a property with a designated parking space or driveway in order to deter thieves and vandals and avoid having to make claims on their car insurance.
The research shows that on average people would be prepared to pay just under £5,000 more to ensure their car is parked in a safe place next to their home, while one in ten would pay up to an additional £10,000 for a property with private parking.
Colin Kemp, managing director of Halifax Estate Agents, said the research sends a clear message to anyone selling their home to ensure that any parking facilities are clearly advertised.
As well as reducing the risk of theft or damage having private parking can also lead to cheaper premiums for car insurance customers, especially of their vehicle is kept inside a locked garage.
