20 July 2007 Brits 'may find cheaper car insurance'
Nine out of ten British drivers will be able to find cheaper car insurance if they take the time to shop around, according to Confused.comThe price comparison site says many car insurance customers are swayed by claims from providers that they offer some of the most competitive policies on the market.
But in fact if consumers move beyond the big names and compare the entire market, including many smaller car insurance firms, they could, in 90 per cent of cases, find a better deal.
Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, said: "Our advice to consumers remains always shop around based on your individual circumstances, look beyond the marketing hype and don't opt for the first policy that catches your eye."
Separate research from Confused.com shows that the way drivers describe their job when searching for car insurance can affect the level of the quote they receive, as insurers keep a record of claims history against specific job titles.
For example a builder who describes him or herself as a bricklayer will pay less while a lawyer who describes him or herself as a barrister will pay more.
