19 July 2007 Warning for Wirral van insurance customers

Van insurance customers across the Wirral are being urged to lock their vehicles securely following a spate of tool thefts across the region.

Local police say there have been a number of incidents in which valuable equipment such as drills, grinders and routers have been stolen from vans while workmen have been carrying out jobs, the Wirral Globe reports.

Chief inspector of operations Mark Harrison told the newspaper: "We cannot stress enough the need for car and van owners to be extra careful, lock and secure their vehicles and remove all items of value before the vehicle is left."

Police in Sussex have also been issuing advice to van drivers in their area amid fears that thieves are targeting commercial vehicles with the aim of stealing power tools and other items.

The incidents demonstrate the importance of having full van insurance cover in place to protect not just against theft of the vehicle itself but also its contents.
