05 July 2007 Suspension 'responsible for 30% of MOT failings'
Close to thirty per cent of vehicles fail their annual MOT due to the state of their suspension, it has been claimed.According to Easier, leaking shock absorbers, broken coil springs and worn steering joints are all common problems, often caused by speed bumps.
However, a new online guide from Car Parts Direct shows drivers how to maintain a healthy suspension - something that could see motorists save in MOT assessment as well as car insurance payouts.
It added that this may be particularly useful as some people can drive around in death traps without realising that the feature is damaged.
Meanwhile, a report from TyreSafe has called on drivers going on holiday to check that their tyres are in good condition before setting off.
In order to keep them well maintained, travellers should look to remove dirt and shrapnel from treads as well as look out for uneven wear - as it may result in unaligned steering which could see drivers lose control on the road.
