04 July 2007 Most crime-riddled Cardiff car parks revealed
NCP car parks in Wood Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road have been name among Cardiff's most crime-ridden, it has been reported.According to the South Wales Echo, local police have claimed that these sites account for close to half of the city's vehicle crime - something that may be of worry for residents with car insurance in the area.
The paper flagged up concerns that CCTV monitors just one level of the company's multi-storey car parks, with the closest surveillance station some 170 miles away.
But superintendent Bob Tooby, chairman of the Cardiff Auto Crime Community Safety Partnership, claimed that a joint effort can reduce the number of incidents for the 1.8 million drivers who use the car parks.
"I am sure that if the NCP is prepared to take advice, crime will reduce," he said.
This comes as the Prince of Wales last month opened the Universities Police Science Institute at the University of Glamorgan in order to tackle crime in the country.
