03 July 2007 Motorists 'encouraged to cycle into work'
A new advertising campaign is to encourage drivers to give up the daily drive in order to cycle into work, it has been reported.According to Auto Express, a 60-second commercial from the Cyclists' Touring Club starring US model Genevieve Love Lake will air in cinemas nationwide to get the message across.
The motor site added that four million people drive to work every day and that, by giving up, they could help save carbon emissions as well as their own car insurance policies by using their vehicle less.
"A three-mile commute by bicycle would take an average person 20 minutes and the amount of CO2 a couple would save over the course of a year is equivalent to the weight of a small car," said Cyclists' Touring Club director Kevin Mayne.
In other environment news, McDonald's has announced that it is to use bio-diesel to fuel its trucks, in order to bring down carbon emissions.
