02 July 2007 Yorkshire police warn motorists against car use
South Yorkshire police have urged drivers not to take any trips in their cars in the wake of the flooding in the area, it has been reported.Heavy rainfall in the county has led to a number of automobiles being abandoned in Doncaster, Sheffield and Rotherham, the authority claimed.
Roads policing chief inspector Ian Bint stated that motorists would be putting themselves at risk - as well as their car insurance policies - if they were attempt a journey.
Furthermore, the official stated that drivers should not look to travel on roads they cannot clearly make out.
"We would also ask motorists not to try and drive through water if they cannot clearly see the road surface," he said.
"The risk is just not worth it."
The recent flooding in South Yorkshire has left five people dead, while thousands have been left unable to safely enter their homes.
