27 June 2007 ABI urges flood victims to claim
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has urged those affected by the floods which have hit the UK this week to contact their insurers, it has been reported.According to the Guardian, the damage caused by the heavy rainfall in Yorkshire resulted in 1,400 people being moved to emergency accommodation on Monday June 25th 2007.
It added that the lives of four people have been claimed by the strong weather conditions throughout the region.
But Jonathan French, ABI spokesperson, has urged people whose property has suffered damage to get in touch with their home insurance company as soon as possible.
"Most of the major insurers will have people on the ground in the affected areas and their claims lines should be able to arrange for immediate help," he said.
The Guardian has also reported that government cutbacks over the last few years led to a lower emphasis on flood protection in some areas of the UK.
