26 June 2007 Drivers 'do not know their own cars'

A poll of motorists has revealed how much people do not know about their vehicles, it has been reported.

Breakdown firm Green Flag has reported that 11 per cent of drivers do not know how to open the bonnet of their car, while 13 per cent are unaware of how they would go about filling up windscreen washer fluid, What Car? stated.

A further thirteen per cent are in the dark when it comes to locating the dipstick, while 22 per cent put their car insurance policy at risk as they do not know how to check their tyre pressures, it added.

The survey also found that the cities in which motorists were particularly ignorant of motor issues were Cambridge, Chelmsford, Newcastle and Bristol.

Meanwhile, TyreSafe has warned that a host of used tyres could cause problems for people on the road, the BBC has reported.

The organisation claimed that that three out of every ten could pose a threat.
