25 June 2007 Older drivers' maps 'may endanger them'

Some of the older drivers in the UK may find themselves getting lost as they are using outdated maps, it has been reported,

A survey from the travel information company Trafficmaster has found that one per cent of motorists over the age of 55 use maps produced before 1950, according to Channel 4 News.

This may be a problem if they were to get lost, as an accident could be more likely to occur and compromise a car insurance policy if the driver is in unknown territory.

Similarly, it added that the survey of 2,196 adults discovered that some are using guides produced before the first motorway was installed in Britain.

Furthermore, three per cent revealed they could not read a map, while 21 per cent now prefer to use satellite navigation systems.

Such devices have proved popular in the last few years, with consumers download celebrity voices to guide them to their destinations.

Favourites include John Cleese and Home Simpson.
