22 June 2007 Some 7% Gwent drivers 'found drunk'
Police in Wales have announced their disappointment at the number of drunk-drivers recorded in Gwent, it has been reported.Out of the 677 breath tests carried out by the constabulary since it launched a campaign against the act on June 4th 2007, some 7.2 per cent (47 drivers) have been found to be over the legal alcohol limit, according to News Wales.
This figure is "a lot higher" than statistics from last year, when 4.8 per cent of summer motorists tested positive to an outlawed level of alcohol consumption, leading an official to issue a warning to motorists.
"Drivers need to realise that there is a high possibility of them being stopped and tested at any time of the day," said chief inspector John Pavett.
In order to preserve their car insurance policies, as well as their personal safety, drivers may need reminding that 0.8mg is the legal alcohol consumption limit before driving.
