20 June 2007 Motorists 'unsure over child seats'

Nearly three-quarters of drivers who carry child passengers are unaware of new legal requirements they must obey, it has been reported.

The Coventry Telegraph has cited results from a Masternaut survey, which found that 76 per cent did not know that children between the ages of three and 13 and under 135cm tall must use a seat restraint, booster seat or cushions.

It added that 93 per cent of the 2,413 people questioned knew that new legislation had been introduced, yet were unable to recall it.

An accident with a child on board could lead to tragedy, while a loose seat could lead to problems which may invalidate a car insurance policy.

Meanwhile, the same news source has reported that people in Coventry who work in the centre of the city may soon have to look for a new method of transport.

Road bosses are looking to bring in laws which would make it illegal to park on inner-city residential areas if a person does not live there.
