15 June 2007 Defaqto report says 'consumers are victims of price war'

A price war between home insurance providers may see customers missing out, it has been claimed.

The Home Insurance in the UK report from Defaqto has showed that insurers drop prices in order to take on new business rather than improve the service they offer.

As a result, it added that the offers often only apply to the new consumers, leaving loyal customers out in the cold with the same deal.

Brian Brown, Defaqto's head of insight, has commented that companies should be giving more concern to the service that they offer rather than the price they sell it for.

"As ever, customers need to check carefully the quality of cover that they are getting is adequate because cheapest is rarely best," he said.

In the onset of long summer nights, people should be sure to secure their home in order to avoid the risk of being burgled.
