14 June 2007 Motorists 'lied to over petrol'

Drivers are being lied to over the number of miles they will receive for every gallon of petrol pumped into their cars, it has been reported.

Auto Express has claimed that tests have showed that best-selling models do not have the fuel consumption official figures suggest, with some using up to a third more, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It added that many green, environmentally-friendly vehicles were guilty of this, while small city run-arounds gave up to 24 per cent less than the statistics revealed.

And the magazine's road test editor Oliver Marriage has stated that the official documentation that is released with vehicles "should be taken with a pinch of salt".

Meanwhile, a report from Co-Operative Financial Services has claimed that environmental awareness and green issues have resulted in an upturn in the number eco-friendly products, such as green car insurance, being bought.
