12 June 2007 Police in Preston issue burglary warning

Homeowners in Preston may see their home insurance policies come under threat after a surge in burglaries in the area, it has been reported.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, nine homes in Plungington and Ashton have been targeted in the past fortnight, with the number of incidents across Lea double in recent months.

The news provider claimed that in April and May 2006, the area saw 28 burglaries. This year, over the same period, 58 were recorded.

And it may be that people are becoming more lax with their security habits in the onset of summer.

"The problem at the moment is in Plungington. Burglary is up there, it is up in Lea and it is up in Preston and it is mainly because people's windows and doors are being left open," said Inspector John Ainsworth.

Meanwhile, people may also want to keep an eye out for subsidence on their property, which can be a common problem at this time of year.
