12 June 2007 Travellers' impulse activities 'may compromise insurance'
Risky activity while on holiday may see people compromising their travel insurance policies, it has been claimed.People not only risk serious injury, but also their cover policy each time they parasail, rock-climb or bungee-jump, according to moneysupermarket.com.
The consumer site added that many travel insurance packages will not stretch to cover such extreme pursuit, potentially landing people in trouble if they have an accident.
"While rock climbing or bungee jumping might add to the holiday experience, many insurers … classify these as dangerous sports and will not cover you in their standard policies if anything goes wrong," said Richard Mason, director of insurance.
Meanwhile, a recent study in Ireland by Vhi Healthcare found that 43 per cent of travellers were gambling with the treatment they may receive each time they go abroad by not picking up travel insurance.
With summer having just arrived, it may be a good idea to look into cover if a trip away from home is imminent.
