11 June 2007 MPVs 'growing in popularity'

The popularity of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has grown over the past four years, it has been reported.

According to Easier, analysts at Vehicle Remarketing Solutions picked out the Renault Grand Scenic as one of the many MPVs people are buying, predicting this will only increase over the summer.

This is because buyers will be attracted to its comfortable and spacious features in spite of its potentially expensive car insurance costs.

And Lewis Arthur, managing director of the company, commented that the recent demand in the vehicles comes as road tax prices get higher for 4x4s.

"It seems that the rise in car tax has pushed retail demand away from 4x4s. Although this propensity for larger vehicles has remained," he said.

Gordon Brown's Budget in March may have caused some 4x4 drivers to look elsewhere.

The chancellor announced that gas-guzzling vehicles will be paying up to 400 per cent more road tax over the coming years.
