07 June 2007 Grampian police: Slow down drivers

Grampian police have urged drivers in the region to kill their speed in order to avoid killing someone else, it has been reported.

This comes after a 26 year-old man was caught clocking 106 mph on the A90 Aberdeen to Balmedia Road on Friday June 1st 2007 and a 23 year-old was caught at 113 mph some time later, according to the constabulary.

These speeds show an "absolute reckless disregard" and irresponsibility, as a crash at such speeds could result in loss of life, commented Chief inspector Gordon Gibson.

Similarly, any kind of accident could have serious implications of future car insurance policies.

"Driving at these speeds and in these circumstances is quite frankly inexcusable and indefensible," the officer said.

South of the border, the Safer Roads for Cumbria organisation is giving £60 vouchers to young drivers in order to pay for Pass Plus schemes, according to the North-West Evening Mail.

Such a programme sees motorists learn extra driving skills.
