06 June 2007 Drivers would 'like more from the internet'

Motorists would like to receive more help from the internet in future, new survey results have shown.

According to a Directgov poll, more than one in five would like to be given the chance to renew their car tax online, while one in ten would like to put their car through a virtual MOT in order to assess its frailties.

Similarly, ten per cent would like to renew their driving licence online and one in eight feels they would benefit from accessing their car's history on the internet.

A further ten per cent stated being given accident quotes via the web would help with their car insurance, it added.

"This project helps us understand what information people want and scope out the future of online services," a Directgov spokesperson commented.

Meanwhile, the Gazette and Herald has reported that an initiative by Wiltshire Police saw 120 vehicles seized within a month for driving without car insurance.
