01 June 2007 More than 5 people a day 'drink-driving in North Yorkshire'

There are more than five people getting behind the wheel while over the legal alcohol limit each day, it has been reported.

According to York Press, the amount of people drink-driving is at a three-year high, with close to 2,000 drivers caught - a 66 per cent increase.

Motorists should not need reminding that a driving conviction may affect future car insurance policies.

And Adam Briggs, who is to be appointed deputy chief constable of North Yorkshire Police on Monday June 4th, called the activity "unacceptable".

"Driving plus drink or drugs equals deadly danger. It is as simple as that," he said.

This marks the latest call for people to cut down driving after drinking.

The Environmental Transport Association has reported on the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' claim that deaths due to driving under the influence are at a ten-year high.
