30 May 2007 East Sussex drivers receive drink-drive warning

Motorists who drive through the East Sussex region have been warned about the implications of getting behind the wheel while over the legal alcohol limit, it has been reported.

This comes as the Bexhill Today stated that East Sussex Road Policing Unit arrested 37 drivers for being unfit to be on the road this month.

A Europe-wide initiative to counter the problem will begin from Monday June 4th 2007 until the following Sunday, during which sites throughout the county will be targeted by officials in order to "stamp out this dangerous and anti-social practice".

"The message really is, if you drink and drive we will catch you," said Inspector Steve Grace of the East Sussex Road Policing Unit.

Earlier this week, Safe Speed campaigner Paul Smith spoke out against fines being issued on Merseyside for those driving without car insurance.

Mr Smith claimed the cost was no deterrent.
