29 May 2007 Drink-driving among young motorists 'alarms police'
The amount of young people driving while under the influence of alcohol is worrying police, it has been reported.In London, the BBC has claimed that people aged between 17 and 24 make up a number of offenders described as "disproportionate" - accounting for around one in four caught over the limit.
In accordance, the government will make the age group a primary target when it begins its summer drink-driving campaign.
A young person found to be driving while drunk risks lives, in addition to compromising their car insurance policy.
"They're the majority of the casualties … they're killing themselves, they're mutilating themselves, which is such a tragic waste of life," said Sergeant Ivan Stafford from the Leicestershire constabulary.

Blackburn Rovers player Paul Gallagher, 22, lost his friend Matthew Hannon in an accident in January 2006.
"[Young drivers] have to learn to not drive dangerously," Gallagher said.
