25 May 2007 Running costs most important factor for drivers
Many drivers are more concerned about the costs involved in running their cars than the carbon emissions they produce, according to a new report.A survey conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of SMMT found that 13 per cent of respondents said that CO2 emissions were their greatest concern, compared with 29 per cent who suggested the cost of motoring - which may include car insurance - was their biggest worry.
Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of SMMT, said that financial concerns are still more important to car buyers than the environment.
"This is why it is so important that we continue to wrap the message that low carbon cars and low cost motoring go hand-in-hand," he remarked.
In related news, American Express recently said that petrol price increases have seen drivers choose more environmentally-friendly vehicles, as well as changing their driving habits, the Mirror reports.
