23 May 2007 Stop Means Stop campaign gets green light in Harrow

Local councils are implementing a new campaign in order to get people to stop at crossing patrols when they are asked, it has been reported.

The Stop Means Stop initiative will see drivers prosecuted if they do not stop when ordered to do, according to Harrow Times.

If a motorist is found to violate this rule, they stand to be fined £1,000 and pick up a licence deduction of three points, it added.

Authorities may also see fit to revoke their licence - an act that could have serious implications on those looking to pick up cheaper car insurance in the future.

"We hope that this campaign will help to remind drivers in our borough that stop really does mean stop," said Councillor Keith Burrows.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph has reported that 4x4 drivers will be the hardest hit by the government's proposed road pricing scheme.

This follows March's budget, in which Gordon Brown announced higher tax bills for gas-guzzling vehicles.
