21 May 2007 Young driver insurance 'set to soar'
The average annual car insurance premium for a young or inexperienced driver will rise over the next ten years, it has been predicted.According to the Herald, costs will go up by £3,000 over the coming decade - with the high prevalence of accidents young people are involved in already resulting in a 92 per cent rise over the last one, uSwitch.com has claimed.
By 2017, the price comparison website has predicted that a young person will pay as much as £3,097 to insure a Ford Fiesta.
Aron Thompson, head of insurance at the company, claimed that some providers do not offer young drivers a good policy.
"Young drivers get a raw deal when it comes to insuring their cars," he said.
Last week, the Department of the Environment stated that it would bring up the possibility of banning young drivers from the road between 23:00 BST and 06:00 with the government.
