17 May 2007 South coast police: We will seize anti-social vehicles

Police in Mid Devon have claimed that they will exercise the right to seize vehicles being used in an anti-social manner, it has been reported.

According to the Mid Devon Star, motorists will get one chance to stop acting dangerously, but if they continue officers will confiscate their car.

Subsequently, it may be that the driver is prosecuted for their offence, while they may have to pay to pick up the impounded vehicle - a potentially costly addition to road tax and car insurance.

And Inspector Anne Higgins of the constabulary has stated that dangerous driving may be influenced by the weather - which may make this summer dangerous.

"This problem is often exacerbated in the summer months, when evenings are lighter and the weather better," she said.

Meanwhile, the Department for Transport has released statistics showing that road deaths in the UK are down.

Compared to 3,201 fatalities in 2005, 3,150 people died last year.
