17 May 2007 Women licence-holders 'on the increase'
The number of women in the UK who possess a driving licence has gone up by a third over the last 30 years, it has been revealed.Figures from the Department for Transport show that 34 per cent more women were legally able to take to the road in 2005 than in 1976, according to Easier.
It added that the fairer sex are also becoming one of the fastest growing buyer groups in the automotive sector - something which may also ring true in the car insurance industry.
And David Shelton, managing director of Motorpoint, has commented that the company has embraced the growing female interest by employing car-savvy women.
"Both sexes have always had different requirements and buying behaviour and we have recognised the benefits of having saleswomen on our premises," he said.
Meanwhile, lawmakers in Mexico City are reportedly mulling over introducing an all-female taxi service in order to improve safety for drivers and riders, according to the Miami Herald.
