10 May 2007 Motorists 'ignoring drink and drive warnings'

Police in a region of Scotland believe that laws regarding driving while under the influence of alcohol are being ignored, it has been reported.

According to the BBC, officers in Dumfries and Galloway commented on statistics showing that 101 drivers were found over the limit during the first third of 2007.

A crackdown last week followed the trend, with seven drivers caught out between May 4th and May 7th 2007, it added.

Such behaviour may lead to a criminal conviction or trouble when it comes to renewing a car insurance policy.

And it has been described as incomprehensible by Inspector Gordon McKnight.

"I can't understand why people still [take a risk and] drink and drive," he said.

"The warnings we issued yet again appear to have been blatantly ignored."

British actor Christopher Lee has been sentenced to four weeks in jail following five drink-driving offences in Singapore, according to Channel News Asia.
