Highways Agency complaint leads to first related prosecutionA complaint from traffic officers at the Highways Agency has, for the first time, led to a motorist being convicted, according to a motoring site.
Easier has revealed that the man was charged and subsequently admitted to driving under intermittent red crosses - a sign that a lane closure is ahead.
The motorist was travelling close to junction 22 of the M60 near Oldham and Ashton on November 9th 2006 when he was spotted committing the offence by the officials.
And the man may now have difficulty when he next comes to renew his car insurance policy as he has been fined £60 and docked three licence points.
"This case will raise awareness of the powers of Highways Agency Traffic Officers and hopefully strongly influence drivers to observe the directions given," said Dave Ryder, network operations manager for the North West Traffic Office service.
Also in the Greater Manchester area, an air gun-wielding sniper fired at two motorists in their cars on Princess Parkway in Chorlton.
While nobody was hurt, the assailant is yet to be caught.
