08 May 2007 Anti-skid technology 'could save lives'
Britons on the road may find themselves at risk due to the lack of anti-skid technology in their vehicles, it has been reported.According to the Daily Express, the latest electronic stability control (ESC) systems can totally eliminate so-called discotech accidents - late night, high-acceleration crashes involving young people.
The newspaper added that while 55 per cent of cars in the UK incorporate the latest advances in the field, 65 per cent of Latvian vehicles and 76 per cent in Sweden have it pre-installed.
Such technology may save lives, as well as bring down a car insurance quote.
And the international automobile federation FIA has stated that over 400 lives each year could be saved if 90 per cent of cars were fitted with ESC.
Meanwhile, Tele Atlas has today claimed that it will design close to 50 detailed 3D city maps for satellite navigation systems in order to aid motorists, according to about-electronics.eu.
