04 May 2007 Home work 'attractive to Britons'

Over half of people in the UK would prefer to work from home, according to new research.

Skipton Building Society polled 5,000 adult and found 58 per cent would prefer to do their job from the comfort of their own dwelling, the Glasgow Daily Record has reported.

Over the course of a lifetime, the body has estimated that at least £30,000 can be saved, with the average commuter who drives to work spending £17,515 on petrol and £4,000 on parking.

Productivity may increase as a result, with 17 per cent believing they would work harder from home, it added.

And a spokeswoman for Skipton hailed the fact that many would up their home insurance as a result of switching scenery.

"We are pleased to see that more than half of respondents would increase their home contents insurance to cover all the additional equipment," the representative said.

People looking to get away this bank holiday should be sure to protect their home by making sure it is fully secured when they leave.
