03 May 2007 Tyre habits tracked in survey

Most motorists believe that they have never taken to the road with an unsafe tyre, according to new research.

Bridgestone UK found that 76.7 per cent claimed to have never taken the risk, although one in five admitted that they have not taken the time to check in the past, according to the Midweek Advertiser.

This means that more a fair proportion of British drivers may be risking their car insurance no-claims bonuses by simply opting not to check the condition of their wheels before hitting the road.

However, half of those surveyed claimed that they have checked their tyre pressures during the last month, with a third adding that they know what to look for, the news body found.

Meanwhile, government officials in Spain have come up with a new way to dispose of old tyres.

According to Expatica Spain, new regulation will see 35 million used tyres ground up and mixed with asphalt before being laid on roads.
