02 May 2007 Police warn of 'distraction burglaries'

Fresh warnings have been issued by police against the threat of distraction burglaries, it has been reported.

The Burnham & Highbridge Weekly News has claimed that this comes after eight elderly men were targeted by criminals in separate incidents in Somerset.

A distraction burglary is a technique used by thieves in order to gain access to a person's home.

The burglars distract their victims and then steal valuables, something which may seriously compromise a home insurance policy.

In order to cut down the risk of this occurring, the police have warned that homeowners should never let strangers into their home or leave large amounts of cash lying around, the news body stated.

Meanwhile, a distraction burglary in Exeter has led to a police appeal, according to the Mid Devon Star.

The local constabulary has released images of three men they are looking to bring in after an elderly woman's house on Burnthouse Lane was targeted.
