30 April 2007 Students not taking home insurance 'risking disaster'
Students are neglecting to take out a home insurance policy for a number of reasons, it has been claimed.According to The Motley Fool, young people at university are choosing not to take out cover in order to cut costs - something Mary Taylor, NatWest's media relations manager, has called a "false economy".
Similarly, some students believe that a problem, such as a break-in or fire damage, will be covered on their parents' policy, it added.
But as long as they do not have cover, the expert has warned, they will be risking upwards of £3,000.
"The final bill to replace goods could stretch their financial resources to the limit if adequate insurance isn't in place and they experience a burglary," said Ms Taylor.
Meanwhile, a spate of burglaries last week has seen the police in Cambridgeshire issue a security warning to homeowners, according to the Cambridgeshire Times.
