27 April 2007 Survey highlights lorry driver concerns

A new survey has revealed the concerns of lorry drivers in the UK, van insurance customers may be interested to know.

Some 86 per cent responded that they were concerned over the amount of foreign drivers in the UK in a study of more than 300 users of heavy goods vehicles by Protemp4Logistics, according to onrec.com.

New working time regulations and drivers' hours leading to the inability to earn a good wage were also sticky issues for two-thirds of motorists, while 78 per cent called road congestion a major issue.

"We are working hard to address these areas of concern that our drivers have voiced wherever we can," said Andrew Blakesley, managing director at Protemp4Logistics.

Meanwhile, plans have been unveiled by the government which would see a Europe-wide driving licence introduced.

Officials would like to see the permit in drivers' wallets across the continent by 2011.
