26 April 2007 Drivers 'should check insurance'

A top insurance body has claimed that consumers may need to be careful of what they are entering into when they take out a car insurance policy.

This follows the news that cover companies may be looking to sell their products on the high street with increasing regularity, according to Money News.

Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), claimed that people may not necessarily be given access to better products as a result of this, but the increase in prevalence is "always good".

"Any additional access to the market which clients have is always beneficial," he added.

Last month, Biba warned newlyweds against going on their honeymoon without taking out a sufficient insurance policy.

A couple may be hit with large bills for any healthcare they receive abroad if they do not take out cover.

Graeme Trudgill, technical services manager for the body, said it was "really, really important".
